Possibly up for sale is my black 1999 Mazda Miata. 63,XXX miles. Clean title in hand. The car is a purpose built, turn-key drift car. Yes, the car is driven hard. But it is well-maintained to take whatever you throw at it. The car is 100% reliable and ready for you to drive up to a drift event, drift all day, and drive home without a problem.

This Miata is a drift/track car and has a few dings and scratches. The car has been garaged its whole life as well and has never seen winter. The interior is completely gutted except for the essentials.

I am very meticulous especially when it comes to fluid changes. I change the engine oil right before every event, the transmission fluid every 3 events, and the differential fluid every 2 events (if not sooner). The only time this car gets driven is to and from drift events and the occasional weekend drive. Fluids have all been changed beginning of this month (October 2011) and the car has just gotten a 4-wheel alignment.

The car produces over 240whp/210wtq. The car is not built for overall horsepower but built for response, reliability, and balance. The suspension, brakes, power all work in harmony together to provide an overall awesome driving experience.

CONS: The interior is gutted and has no AC (has heat though), airbags, and soft-top. The car has a check engine light (always has since the car got turbo’ed many years ago) probably due to 02 sensor since there is no catalytic converter. The car has very minimal ground clearance but I guess that is a PRO to other people like myself but it is on coilovers so you can easily raise it up.

Full size side tank radiator in Civic.

Today we will install a full size radiator in my Civic, I recently swapped a B18C from an Integra GS-R into the vehicle and the stock half size radiator just wasn't cutting it. So the awesome folks over at Koyo (Scott to be exact, this guy is the man) hooked me up with one of their 36mm V-core racing radiators. However, we decided on not a regular half size Civic radiator but their Scion TC application (V2776). This is a full size radiator that could easily fit in the engine bay of the Civic, however the tricky part is that I was adamant on keeping my AC. Here is how it went.

If you have been reading this blog at all, you may have seen that i recently made my radiator support bolt-on after having the original one destroyed by a steel beam on the freeway. So i unbolted it and off it came.

First we removed the stock radiator and AC condenser mounts by using a spot weld remover.

Then I trimmed the rad. support to accommodate for the filler neck.

Safety first! I like wearing gas station sun glasses when i grind/cut/destroy stuff.

fitment looks pretty spot on.

This radiator is quality!

I went ahead and removed the stock radiator - into the trash it goes.

After welding new mounts for the bottom we test fitted the radiator support on the car.

Looks pretty good so then we mounted the AC condenser behind the radiator along with a 12" electric fan.

I rigged up the radiator hose crossover using 90 degree bends, the stock hose and some brass tubes, I think I'll get it made in aluminum soon though.

And there you have it, full size radiator in a Civic. Big thanks to Koyo of course and my roommate Allan for helping!

Well, I made the move to Socal.

My roommates from down here came up to help me move, threw all my junk into an Uhaul, trailer-ed the Corolla down.

Oh the I-5 South, not digging the gear ratios on the GS-R engine. haha.

I miss little things about Norcal here and there, but to be completely honest - It's just the people that I really miss. I am looking forward to my new life down here, I'd like to find my potential and utilize it.

We'll see.

If you have access to a computer or a bookstore/convenience store/grocery store you know who Alexi is, the writer of the blog www.noriyaro.com and writer of the Noriyaro column in Drift Tengoku. We became friends over the internet (there's no stigma any more!) and met in person at last year's Summer Drift Matsuri.

Noriyaro is definitely in my top five favorite blogs of all time, but it makes me so damn homesick every time i read it. One day I mentioned on my facebook how i feel when i read Noriyaro so Alexi had this banner up for a week or so.

I personally got a kick out of it and a lol so you know i had to take a screenshot.

S30 Update.

So i have been asked for an update on the S30.

Same old. I was planning on rebuilding it this summer but the arrangement for shop space fell through so I am keeping it together so i can take it down to Socal at the end of this month with the ability to move it around with it's own power if necessary. I am looking forward to building it when i get settled in. So here it is currently, collecting dust in a back yard.

Might as well post an update on the Corolla as well.

Not running at the moment, Justin just pulled the 4AC out of his TE sedan to make room for the SR so I will be putting that in mine to register and insure it, at which point the 13B goes in. Speaking of which, if anybody has a running S4 13B and transmission in Socal, please let me know.

Auto-Xing the Civic.

So last weekend I had an enjoyable time Auto-Xing the Civic.

The suspension felt really good, perfectly neutral and very predictable. If I have any complaints it would be that the RS-3s tend to lose grip when they get hot, although I didn't notice the loss of grip until I did five consecutive runs with maybe three minutes between each run - and cold initial grip is amazing. The Z1 Star Specs felt the same all day long but I'm sure they didn't even get warm considering they were on the rear of a FF.

Oh and as you can see in the photos, the car sustained a little damage. A few weeks ago, I was driving down I-5 in Stockton when a truck dropped a large steel beam about 4' in length and it struck my vehicle along with six other cars. It's a little unsightly but I'll make sure their insurance will take care of it and in the meantime I am accumulating parts, so far a FRP vented hood (allegedly a very old 5zigen model), and a URAS bumper duct are taking up room here, but more on that later.

My friend Ngoc was there operating his camera, so now I have these awesome photos, thank you.

Everybody else I went with was drifting that day, which was kinda bum-inducing but grip is fun too. A couple cars that really stood out to me:

Adam's GS300, this thing is pretty fucking rad.

And of course, Dino's god damn Corolla.

So I've had this funny project of a Civic going on.

Around the end of last year, I realized that daily driving my S30 was a pain in the dick. I considered the most reasonable of modern sports cars, the Honda S2000, an amazing car to drive - even in stock form. However, there were a few factors that had me second guessing if an S2000 was really what I needed at the moment.

Pros:

Handles like a motherfucker.
Aesthetically appealing.
Handles like a motherfucker.
Something about girls.
Handles like a motherfucker.
Honda reliability and comfort.

Cons:

Insurance would be like $300/month, seriously. (yes, my driving record is not the best)
Interest rates, as i would need to make payments on the vehicle. (And would require full coverage insurance)
Cost of replacement parts from normal wear and tear.
Fuel economy is good but not super-awesome.
There is no fucking room, man.

So i presented to myself a compromise. I would choose a reasonable car with cheap ass insurance rates, a real trunk, rear seats, readily available parts, and fuck it - might as well have four doors, and build it to keep up with and maybe even outrun stock S2000s without spending more than what an S2000 would cost me. I decided on a '96 Honda Civic sedan. A car engineered from the ground up to be a efficient, cheap, reliable car to get your average single mother to and from the grocery store after dropping off the kids at school.

I found a clean title, 5 speed, LX model (power everything/no sunroof) in white (has to be white, dude) that had no signs of ever being in an accident for $2500.

I went ahead and set the budget at $15,000. Which was the cheapest I could reasonably get an AP2 S2000 for even before factoring in the cost of interest and insurance.

First up, suspension.

I bought the car with 183,000 miles on it, needless to say all the bushings were worn to hell. After considering replacing the rubber bushings with polyurethane replacements, I decided to just go with spherical errrrrthaanng. New coilovers were ordered as well as swift springs in +2kg/mm all around (effectively 14k/10k). Threw a few chassis braces in the mix and I had what should be a fairly well set up grip car. The list goes something like this:

ARP extended studs and Muteki Lugnuts

Buddyclub Racing Spec coilovers

Swift springs 14kg/mm front and 10kg/mm rear

DC2 Integra spindles, trailing arms, calipers.

Hawk HP+ pads, ATE rotors all around.

Wicked tuning rear toe links (spherical bearings)

UR front/rear strut bars, room bar.

Buddy club roll center adjusters.

Now for the most important part of the car, the tires. I am currently running 225/45/15 Hankook Ventus RS-3s up front and 205/50/15 Dunlop Z1 Star Spec tires out back on 15x6.5 +38 Volk Racing 5/4S wheels, I went through two sets of Star Specs in the front, enjoyed them thoroughly but decided to try out the RS-3s and was very impressed with their initial grip.

The interior is very stock save for a bucket seat, steering wheel, shift knob, and quick release (from 9K racing) and works well as a daily.

Anyhow the car ended up looking like this:

As donations have been really slowing down, and I am working on taking care of getting stickers out to people who did not receive them due to getting lost in the mail or having received wrong colors or quantities now, I am getting ready to start on the S30 in the next month as I put that on hold when we started the donation project, I finally have time to get back to my cars. So to start off I am putting my Work Bersaglios up for sale, I bought them a while back for my S13 but i really want to concentrate on finishing the S30. I am actually selling all my wheels and will be posting them up here in the near future (several sets of Advans, Regamasters, Kid's Racing). Anyways the wheels are 18x10.5 -7 and 18x12 -5, 5x114.3 and I am asking $2300. they definitely are not perfect as they are a older and discontinued model, there are small sections of the faces where the chrome is peeling and they have scratches on the lip from mounting and dismounting tires, they look like they can clear larger calipers. Oh hello there,

I just wanted to thank you for your comment. Your writing conveys such eloquence that it really impressed me, not to mention your common sense. If you are going to post as anonymous, there is literally nothing i can do for you, as i didn't receive any donations from "anonymous". To be honest nobody knows where your money is going, the plan is to give it directly to the Japanese Consulate General but i am still doing research on who is the best recipient of the money and contacting companies to see if they will match our donation. Oh and surely you meant "reply to over as thousand emails" when you wrote "reply to a simple email", now if you and I were the only people in the world (or even if you were the only person you donated) I'm sure we would have excellent communication. But fortunately that is not the case and we have many people to share this planet with, so please bear with me. I promise i will make a post when the money has left my hands. Oh, you were just interested in the stickers? Well then aside from telling you that you donated for the wrong reason let me share a statistic with you, according to google: 37% of mail sent out through the US Postal Service is lost. So perhaps the stickers i sent you fell into that category, I apologize for that and would love to send you replacements if you would only tell me who you are. As for answering emails, I am doing so to the best of my ability but I only have two hands and not very much free time, I do work (and believe it or not this project is not my job - if it was, well I would be homeless) and i do get tired, and when i get tired i tend to make mistakes. Good evening fair gentles.

It's been a while since i updated you guys on what's been going on with the donations.

We are at a little over $7500 in donations, they are definitely slowing down but I plan on taking donations and of course sending out a sticker to thank you for each $5 donation made for as long as people are willing to donate. Hopefully we will reach our $10,000 goal by the end of may.

All donations made up to the 26th of April have been processed and the stickers were sent out as a token of our appreciation for donating through us.

There were several people that didn't list their addresses so i will be emailing you shortly.

We were not able to get chrome to work unfortunately so everybody who asked for a chrome sticker was instead sent a silver sticker and an additional sticker of a different color as a thank you gift for being so patient with us.

There have been several paypal disputes filed and people asking for refunds of their donations, all of these cases were for the reason that they did not receive their sticker(s) soon enough. I would like to clarify one thing, I really do appreciate everybody's donation but i would prefer if you donated because you care about the people in Japan and want to help them, not to get a sticker. We have been doing our absolute best to make the stickers and send them out as quickly and as accurately as possible, however we are human after all so we may have made a mistake on the color or quantity of the stickers we sent to you - if so, please email me at yutaakaishi@gmail.com and I will take care of it as quickly as i can. Also i would like to apologize to those who feel that we did not send your sticker out quickly enough, and appreciate your patience. Any reason for donating to the less fortunate is a good reason, but when i set this up - i had assumed that people would be more concerned about where the money is going rather than how quickly they would receive their sticker, judging from the emails i have received, it seems to be the opposite. Concerns about stickers.

So it has been brought to my attention that a few people have been concerned about where the stickers are, and where the money is going to. Well ladies and gentlemen, that is exactly what i will be talking to you guys about tonight. First of all, where are your stickers? To put it simply, probably at a post office or in your mailbox, perhaps it's on the kitchen counter as you read this - your mom is wondering why you have mail from "Hb for Japan" and will ask you about it when you get home from school (don't worry mom, it's not a mail order bride confirmation). All donations made not requesting chrome made previous to the 24th of March have been shipped on Monday. If you did order chrome, i apologize for the delay but please bear with me. I am looking for a way to get chrome to work with me, but although i will do everything in my power to honor existing orders all new orders for chrome will be substituted for silver. I have spoke to a friend of mine who also does stickers and he has offered to do the chrome for me, so I am still waiting on (hopefully good) news from him.

I would also like to talk some numbers here tonight, We have collected over $6000 as of today which is awesome! Now some people have expressed that they were not aware that they would have to wait two weeks for their stickers, to be completely honest - neither did I. I did not expect such generosity from all of you and had not expected the donations to come in as quickly and in the quantities that they did. So here are some numbers for you guys:

that comes out to 1200 stickers.

It takes roughly 10 minutes a piece to cut, weed, apply contact paper, look up the order on paypal, verify it on the email, package it, and send it out.

That comes out to 12,000 minutes or 200 hours.

which means that if we were to put in 14 hours a day of work we would have shipped the stickers out on Wednesday (which is basically what happened) and we appreciate your understanding that we do have jobs and go to school outside of this project, if taking donations and sending out stickers was my full time job, then i would have no excuse (although i would be working overtime).

Now i am definitely not complaining, I am very glad that we are able to do this for Japan, and i am extremely thankful for all the generous donations that allowed us to do this, if nobody donated we would not have been able to donate our materials, our postage, and most importantly our time. I apologize that I was not able to meet some of your expectations on when you should have received the stickers.

Now i would like to reply to a comment left on this very blog personally, as this fine commenter chose not to leave a email.

I am very very sorry i could not reply to your email immediately. And i also apologize for not posting any info on the stickers being sent out. I was well...really busy making the very stickers that are the subject of your concern. I would really like to reply to each and every email that i receive but chose instead to concentrate all my attention on making the stickers and making sure they were sent out to the correct person, I promise you that i will be replying to your email.

Finally i would like to report to all of you that we will be donating the money to the Consulate General of Japan as soon as we hit the $10,000 mark. But before we go to their office in San Francisco with a hundred one hundred dollar bills (or maybe two thousand fives stuffed into a briefcase) I am contacting every major corporation that i can think of to see if they would like to match our donation, making the absolute most out of your donation.

I cannot get the chrome to work properly. The first brand i used would not cut properly and made it impossible to weed. The second brand i used is even worse, if i cut it at all it will go through the backing and destroy itself. So unfortunately for the time being ALL ORDERS FOR CHROME WILL BE REPLACED BY SILVER. I apologize for the inconvenience but i cannot continue buying different brands of chrome and having it fail on me, please understand that i am paying for all of the materials out of my own pocket. If that is an issue please send me an email at yutaakaishi@gmail.com to request a refund. I will however keep researching and asking around to see what brand of chrome everybody else is using. First of all, i would like to thank everybody for their generous donations! We are now at over $3500! (i will be compiling a list of all the people who donated and will post it up as soon as i can) I have been working day and night to get all the orders out as soon as possible. I also apologize for not being able to reply to all your emails right away as getting the stickers out has been the priority, i will reply during this week, promise! HUGE thanks to Grayson for designing the sticker as well as making necessary changes to aid in weeding the vinyl as quickly as possible, Justin, Ricardo, Erik, Helen and Max for weeding HUNDREDS of stickers . My name is Yuta Akaishi and i am part of a car club by the name of Heartbreaker, If you are reading my blog i assume you have a decent idea of what kind of cars we build and drive. We have huge respect for Japan and many of our friends and family call Japan their home. Personally for me, my whole family lives in Japan and have been affected my the earthquakes, the tsunami and now the complications with the nuclear power plants.

Ronald, Justin, Gracie and myself decided to check out WekFest in San Francisco today, although none of our cars were showing. We left at around noon, grabbed lunch and were on our way - It's about a 45minute drive to San Francisco, Ron passed the time by drinking a bunch of Vodka and taking photos of random stuff. The washing of cars in the coin operated self serve car wash is a very precise art, Justin, Troy and myself decided to give this daunting task a shot today. We started by warming up - the lifting and holding of a very heavy object. In this particular situation a dog would be suffice as the object.

After getting out muscles nice and limber, we watched the sun set over the Korean Starbucks parking lot.

We arrived at the car wash, and i promptly pulled my vehicle into the stall, where Justin inspected the pressure washer.

After verifying that the pressure washer was up to par, we rinsed off the car - and proceeded to assume the hard parking position.

After I had rid my system of hard parking, I just stared at Justin's MKIIs - The whore of wheels - These wheels have belonged to Justin, Lucky, myself and are now back into the possession of Justin.

After tearing my eyes from the MKIIs, the hardparking bug bit once again, which resulted in this photo.

During the whole process we were very careful not to play loud music.

I personally could not take my eyes off the sweet Viper RT-10 that adorned the wet towel dispenser, What a nice evening.

Helped out at Fatlace's Word Up event this past weekend. It was a very relaxed event and i actually enjoyed it very much despite the rain and cold. So lately.

It's been a bit of a shitfuck trying to order new tires for my car, With me being in Japan and what not. Ron has been taking care of this but after getting some bullshit runaround from America's Tire Company, we decided to just order them from www.tiresdirect.net in Chicago, i hope they get here in a timely manner so i can get the tires on, figure out the fitment and get an alignment in time for JCCS. I decided on Toyo Proxes R888s in 205/55/14 and 225/50/14. So my set of 195/60/14 Azenis RT-615s are for sale. one pair has maybe 20% tread left and the other has 80% left, i'm asking $120 for all four.

In other news Justin's 610 was featured in Super Street Magazine, so be sure to check that out. Henry's Mom's GS300 made a little cameo appearance in this article!

We rolled by Umihotaru a week ago and there was what appeared to be a Skyline meet of some sort going on.

Saw this guy on the way there. Snapped one photo and he was GONE. haha.

We passed up some VIP style wagons on the way to Drift Matsuri.

First time seeing such camber in person.

And a few odysseys.

Pretty cool to see them driving around.
